Plans have been submitted to the city of St. Petersburg that propose massive redevelopment in the Jannus block that's bordered by Central Avenue and First Avenue between Second and Third streets. Preservationists are up in arms that such a historic block — home to the Detroit Hotel — would be considered for development. But the City Council wasn't impressed with their arguments and declined to designate it as a historic area. Just what would go there? The Tampa Bay Times explored the issue and what it might mean for the Jannus Live music venue.
